The New Orleans Saints released announcement through general manager Mickey Loomis on Wednesday that they have finalized a one-year contract with former Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Clint Ingram, who visited the Saints during the time Saints safety Darren Sharper was meeting with Jaguars officials as a free agent.
Ingram is expected to fill in the void left by former Saints starting linebacker Scott Fujita, who took off his Saints jersey to be signed away by the Cleveland Browns in free agency. As a third-round pick from the 2006 NFL draft, Ingram totally has played in 56 regular-season games, all for the same team Jaguars. He also started 46 games for the Jaguars and had a career record of 331 tackles with five sacks, two interceptions and one fumble recovery. His experience of starting at linebacker made him a hot target on free agent market since the Jaguars withdrew their tender offer to him.
What attracted the Saints most attention was probably that Ingram managed to appear in two postseason games following the 2007 regular season, and that experience is definitely needed by the Saints with their starting linebacker as the defending champions of this season has a plan to repeat the Super Bowl victory.
